Program Overview:

North Shore Community College and Lynn Public Schools have a partnership where a faculty member from North Shore Community College is paired with a Lynn public schools teacher. Together they teach the Lynn students who are preparing for the MCAS test. Many of the students are re-taking the test, but many have not yet taken the test. The Lynn and NSCC faculty share ideas and methods that have worked at NSCC while teaching our developmental classes etc.

The program runs three separate times: students can attend eight-nine Saturdays in the fall, the same in the spring, and 3-4 weeks in July at North Shore Community College. Math and ELA classes are offered. The program has a high attendance rate and its participants are generally extremely dedicated.

Best Practices:

-The Lynn teacher and the North Shore Community College faculty members work as a team.

-The Lynn MCAS Partnership classes meet at the Lynn campus college.

Areas of college access it addresses:

Academic Readiness—The Lynn MCAS Partnership aims to help students achieve their high school diploma and thus enable them to continue their education.

Social Readiness—The students are given extra support and mentored through the course of the program.

College Information Awareness—Classes are held at the Lynn North Shore Community College campus exposing students to a college environment and college faculty. The instructors also explain North Shore programs and advise participants in post-graduation decision making.
