Program Overview:
The Mentoring Program is a program of Lynn English High School. Every Lynn English student is partnered with a faculty or staff member in a mentor/mentee relationship. The students meet quarterly with their mentors to discuss personal issues as well as academic and career topics. The program is intended to give a wholistic approach to mentoring, giving students an extra supportive adult with whom to freely dialogue about life choices and plans.
Mentors generally have between twelve to fifteen mentees and keep a record of their time together. Mentors discuss grades, the importance of attendance, academic reminders, and SAT scoring, as well as giving personal guidance.
Best Practices:
-Connecting students who are not already connected within Lynn English.
-Providing an extra, supplementary piece to the support systems, such as the guidance department, already in existence in the school.
Areas of college access it addresses:
Social Readiness- The adult/student mentoring relationship helps give students guidance in post-graduation planning.
